Viv's Travel Tips: Alternatives During Travel

Posted on 03/04/2021

Travel is back on the rise, and maybe you’ve been putting off your next trip in an effort to avoid unnecessary exposure to strangers. While this is a good reasoning, travel is still possible!

If you want to travel this summer or fall, consider adapting your plans in ways that do not hinder your experience, but help keep your mind at ease. Then contact us at travelsbydonna@knology.net to book it!

If you don’t want a commercial flight, have us book a public charter.

Given the changes of policy in airports and flights, commercial air travel is a little more complicated than normal right now. But don’t worry, you can still fly somewhere and avoid those complications. Have you ever thought about chartering a jet?

Of course, private air travel tends to be inaccessible for the average person, but there are many affordable options to choose from, such as using a public charter service. Especially when booking as a group, this becomes quite affordable. The charter services typically offer deals and we will be happy to check pricing for those in your group. These flights allow you to avoid some of the risks of commercial air travel, while still getting to your destination in a timely manner.

Like commercial airlines, charter services are open to the public for both business and leisure travel. Unlike them, though, they cap flights at a significantly lower number, such as 30 passengers.

With a flight experience like this, you get to avoid the traditional airport experience as well, utilizing a private hangar. You will not have to stand through the TSA lines, but you can still feel secure knowing that charter companies use the same TSA background check process that major airlines use.

Valet parking is available to avoid rental car shuttles, allowing you to arrive at the airport a mere 20 minutes before your flight rather than the typical few hours early. All in all, it becomes a more streamlined and less stressful experience.

If you decide you’d rather go this route, contact us at travelsbydonna@knology.net and we will be able to book one for you. Between the saved time and the luxury of being on a private jet, this definitely can stand as a strong contender for your transportation needs on your next trip!

Not feeling a hotel? We can find a private villa.

Given their nature as places where many people gather and many staff members are there to meet their needs, hotels are one area that you may be wary about when planning a vacation right now. But again, there are alternatives! Private homes are usually considered safer, since you have a whole place to yourself and you can avoid interaction with others.

Private home rental platforms have new enhanced cleaning protocols that include updated cleaning standards, checklists for hosts, and more.

These platforms feature not just homes and apartments, but also interesting places to stay like tree houses, castles, and houseboats. There are also options such as luxury homes and villas that come with professional housekeeping staff.

With plenty to choose from, we will be able to find you the perfect private home to fit your needs!

If you’ve already done a theme park, try an outdoor adventure.

Theme parks like Disney are reopening with new safety measures in place, but maybe you’ve already gone several times, or you don’t like the idea of being around all of those people after being in near isolation for a year. If that feels like too much too soon, that’s okay! There are plenty of other entertainment activities for you and your family while on vacation.

Opt for an outdoor adventure in a more sparsely-populated area instead! National parks are reopening and provide opportunities for that same adrenaline you’d get on a roller coaster. You can go hiking on Yosemite’s infamous Half Dome, kayaking in Grand Teton or in Florida’s Everglades, or go rafting in the Grand Canyon. We have tons of interesting and fun trips and packages involving the great outdoors. The options are endless!

Instead of using a taxi or rideshare app, rent a car

Rideshare operators such as Lyft and Uber have announced new cleaning and safety protocols, but still involve coming into close proximity with one other person: the driver. To mitigate this, just rent a car at your destination instead.

Like nearly all travel-related businesses, rental car companies have announced new sanitization protocols. Since the only people who will be sharing the car’s airspace are the people you are traveling with, it definitely eliminates exposure. Plus, the ease of being able to get up and go, whenever you want and wherever you want, adds an element of freedom and control to your trip that you wouldn’t get if you had to wait on available taxis or cars.

You could even go a step further depending on the style and destination of your trip, by renting an RV or camper van that merges a private driving experience with a safe sleeping experience! Either way, we can make this process easier for you and make sure to find the exact vehicle to make your vacation easier.
